Just another Tripawds site

June 28, 2018

I am so excited that I made the decision to join the Tripawd community! Everyone has been so welcoming, comforting, and helpful.

As an update from my first post: It turns out that Clyde more than likely crawled under my hood the night before, and was injured from the fan belt of my car, rather than being it. Either way, he still took quite a beating!

He is spending another night at the veterinary hospital, and I am beyond grateful for the help and consideration of the staff to give me continuous updates on my lil buddy.

Here are some pictures I took of him today when I went to visit!

He’s on a lot of meds so he spends all of his time sleeping and resting. Occasionally he’ll raise his head up and have a loopy look on his face that makes me giggle. He’s in a lot pain and he meows and squirms a little bit – which pains me.

His front left leg was amputated, his front right bandaged up, his back right leg has a splint on it, and the vet is still monitoring his back left. The way he described it to me, his back left leg is in a similar condition to a torn calf muscle, so depending on his progress with the back right, they will either put a small splint on it or add a temporary robo-implant to help it heal!

He’s such a tough and strong boy and I am very proud of him. The vet bills are going to be very pricy but I started a gofundme that has accumulated a surprising amount of money towards my goal.

I am very thankful that I found this amazing vet office so close to my home, I am thankful for my friends, family and those who have helped to aid  me financially, and I am thankful for this wonderful Tripawd community!

I plan on taking videos and pictures of Clyde everyday that I can, though it may be difficult if he spends the weekend at the hospital.

I am optimistic about his recovery, and I can’t wait to have him back home again!

I have also decided to nickname him Lt.Dan.

Once again, I appreciate and love all of you. I’m so ecstatic that I found this community.

Much love,

Amb n Clyde (aka Lt.Dan)

LIEUTENANT DAN IS AN AMAZINGLY RESILIENT LITTLE MAN 😁 He certainly looks quite beat up (amd quite adoravle), but definitely on the road to recovery.

Glad they have him kn good pain meds and are maintaining the right level to keep him as comfortable as possible. Recovery is not going to be easy, but Lt. Dan will recover and rock as one od the world’s cutest tripawds!!

Thanks for the update. We’re all cheering for Lt Dan!

    Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

I wondered if Clyde sustained other injuries, your recovery is going to be different then a lot of ours. As in you are dealing with a lot more at one time. Pain management will still be essential. I think it is great he is staying at the vet’s he will be monitored closely, his pain can be managed better there than at home. Resting and sleeping are medicinal and healing Clyde is doing precisely what he needs too. You might be seeing side effects of his meds in the hospital he should be really drugged up and the drugs can do all sorts of things. I am surprised he is not on iv drugs. I have no experience in the other injuries I hope others will chime in on that.

As far as adaptations to your home steps after recovery for any place he likes to frequent. I added steps to all of Purrkins favorite spots, window seats, to the beds, to the sofa, coffee table, kitchen table, I have more steps then room move;) Also traction if you don’t have carpet. Rug runners or yoga mats exercise floor mats. I raised the food & water bowl for Purrkins, Cut the litter box out as I mentioned previously. You need to think long-term on three and to protect that remaining front leg. Depending on how Clyde gets about I would ginger all of his limbs. Recovery – I would want him resting and drugged & as comfy as possible, less movement the better and in his case even more so.

Hang in there stay optimistic that is what Clyde needs from you remain strong! I have no doubt you guys will get thru this together.

Give Clyde a chin rub when you see him today from us, please.
Healing thoughts and prayers for Lt. Dan/Clyde!

    Hugs
    Holly & Purrkins❤️

I definitely gave Clyde all the chin rubs he deserved when I went to visit today! They did have him on IV fluids, though I’m not sure they did that for him today. They almost sent him home, but he had a fever so I’m waiting until the morning. I did buy some things today to prepare for his return home, I’m going to make a blog post about it shortly!

Thanks for all the advice, I need as much as I can get

Oh wow, looks like he sustained a whole lot under the car. I also hope that internally he is ok. I would definitely keep him in my room if it were me, and I still think it would be better to take your bed off the frame, because at some point he will be able to come out of the crate to start wandering around. It might not be for a while, but once you get his recovery suite set up you will not want to start clearing out the room in the middle of his recovery.

Have they mentioned any other injuries? Do you know if they did x-rays? Your sweet boy has a lot of healing to do, this may be a long road for the two of you. One day at a time.

Hang in there, hugs to both of you.
